Hack a Balance Arm Lamp into a Microphone Stand

Professional swing-arm microphone stands cost upwards of $150. This clever lamp-to-mic-stand hack costs a mere $9.

Cheap microphone swing-arm stands usually start around $75′ish. Decent ones easily break $150. If you’re looking for a cheap microphone stand for your home recording adventures, however, this IKEA Tertial work lamp turned mic stand gets you a functioning mic stand for a mere $9. The creator notes that the mic is a bit heavier than the lamp head and as a result doesn’t move as smoothly as he’d like–he intends to spend a few bucks on beefier springs and bolts to remedy the situation–but still it swings the mic about and keeps it up and off the table. He estimated that his total cost will be $20 when the project is complete.
