Does Linux have the potential to be as good as Windows for gaming?

Linux

I know you can download Wine to run Windows games on Linux, but I want to make sure that everything in Linux can be just as good as it is in Windows XP. I’m wondering if networking will ***** up considering the rest of my family runs on Windows… Does that mean no LAN? Stuff like that. I’ll post more details if people need more so check back.

  1. If you are just running games on your computer, stick with Windows. There is no way you will be able to run all the games you want to play on Linux. Wine is not that reliable, there are allot of factors that determine what the compatibility of a game is. There are better programs out there as well, like Crossover Office and Crossover Games, but again, there is no guarantee that everything will work the way they say it will. i think LANing would work the same, because Linux has to adhere to the TCP/IP protocols, but other than that I really would not recommend Linux for gaming.

  2. You will find Linux will probably be better then Windows. It’s just that games are not developed for Linux so Windows is your only option for gaming.Use duel boot.
Your Linux machine will work on Lan, will see all Win computers as well as vise versa. I run MS and Linux on the same network with no problems
Linux has a wide verity of games for free as most of the software for Linux is.
    Go ahead run Linux.
    Have fun.

  3. linux is better than windows, however stick with windows for gaming, as much as i **** to say that, the games u play right now on windows wont work to well on linux because the games were designed for use in windows. but if u want to partition ur hard drive or get a second hard drive, so u can dual boot if u want to then u can have both windows and linux

  4. Most games are compatible with Windows, and nothing else. Some of them have Mac versions, and some of them have Linux versions (Quake 4, Neverwinter Nights, etc.), but most of them just run on Windows.

So if you spend a lot of time playing recent games, you should stick to Windows. But you can still install Linux, keep Windows (see the install section), and use both of them, depending on your needs.
